WEST JORDAN — The clock tower at 3181 W. 9000 South is scheduled to be demolished at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
The 25-foot-tall, 10-foot-wide wood and stucco tower, with its non-functioning clock, was built over a decade ago in the middle of a working pumpkin patch — soon to be home to the new Granger Medical Clinic.
The clock was originally constructed as the beginning of a business development that was never finished, according to John O'Donnell, a registered nurse and spokesman for Granger Medical Clinic.
The clinic, at 2750 W. 9000 South, plans to move west to its new site following construction of a two-story, 30,000-square-foot facility expected to cost $3 million and be finished in spring 2011.
O'Donnell said Granger Medical officials attempted to include the clock tower in the new building designs but it just didn't work.
"Everyone in this area knows where it is. It's a local community landmark. But we just couldn't figure out a way to keep it. It wasn't conducive to the building design, and it would have been in the middle of a parking lot," Granger told the Deseret News.
Demolition costs are estimated at approximately $4,000, he said.
