Geneve Cornell Deuel Henderson 1921 ~ 2010
Our loving wife, mother and grandmother, Geneve Cornell Henderson passed away on August 22, 2010, one week before her 89th birthday. Geneve Taft Smith was born August 29, 1921 in Santaquin, Utah, the daughter of William Clifford and Olive Taft Smith. She graduated as an honor student from Payson High School. She married Charles L. Cornell August 26, 1940 in the Salt Lake Temple. He died February 23, 1982. She married Jay R. Deuel on February 21, 1991. He passed away September 12, 2003. She married Francis M. Henderson on October 9, 2004. She is survived by five daughters and five sons: Joan and LaVon Walston, Doug and Carma Cornell, Carolyn and Rod Chorman, Louise Cornell, Kathryn and Neil Peterson, Lasca and Gus Wood, Jared and Bre Cornell, Roger and Ellen Cornell, Ralph and Susan Cornell and David and Rose Cornell; 41 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The focus of Geneve's life was on family, God and country. She loved Freedom. She held many positions in the LDS church, including Relief Society President on two occasions. She was a teacher and director at American Heritage School over a 20 year period. It was her love of country that inspired her to write Patriotic Programs for her students for which she received awards in her state and nation, namely, Freedom Foundation Award, Valley Forge Honor Certificate for the Spirit of America Speaks in 1974, George Washington Honor Medal Administration Award in 1990, Valley Forge Teachers Medal in 1990, Daughters of American Revolution Award of Excellence for Outstanding Teacher of American History in Utah in 1988, nominated to attend Columbian Quincentenary Institute in 1990, awarded Who's Who in American Teachers 1990 and 1992, awarded Who's Who Among Outstanding Americans in 1995. She was fondly known as Mrs. Columbus. Geneve was President of the Republican Women's organization in Utah County when she met Verlan Anderson, the principal founder of American Heritage School. She wrote and compiled numerous family histories of her ancestors, and planned reunions for her extended family. She is preceded in death by grandsons, Kent Cornell, Beau Cornell and Wayne Cornell. Funeral services will be held Saturday August 28, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Provo Edgemont LDS Stake Center, 2950 North Canyon Road, Provo, UT. Friends may call Friday , August 27, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 E 100 N, American Fork, UT and Saturday at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
