DUCHESNE — A prison parolee is facing new charges after authorities say he sold them two handguns that he'd advertised on ksl.com.
Someone alerted Adult Probation & Parole agents last week to the ads posted by Kelly Everett Mitchell, said Duchesne County sheriff's deputy Monty Nay.
Mitchell, 39, was offering to sell a .380-caliber pistol and a .22-caliber pistol, Nay said.
Investigators set up a sting to buy the guns. During the transaction, Nay said Mitchell told the undercover officer he's a convicted felon and isn't supposed to have firearms.
The undercover officer paid $300 for the guns and Mitchell was taken into custody. A search of Mitchell after his arrest turned up heroin and drug paraphernalia, Nay said.
Mitchell, who has a lengthy criminal history including convictions in 1999 and 2000 for aggravated robbery in Salt Lake County, was booked into the Duchesne County Jail. He is charged with two counts of possession of a weapon by a restricted person and possession or use of a controlled substance, second-degree felonies; two counts of obstructing justice, and possession or use of a controlled substance, third-degree felonies; and use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor.
