Naomi Myrle Downs Harrington passed away at home on December 31, 2010, determined not to spend another News Years without the love of her life. Naomi was 83.Mom was born in Orem, Utah on March 14, 1927 to George Talmage Downs and Reva Myrle Fox Downs. A short time later the family moved to Lehi, where mom, the oldest of five siblings, was raised. After graduating from Lehi High School she worked for a time at Hill Air Force Base and then the State Employment Security Office. On December 5, 1947 she married a tall and handsome Wallace G. Harrington in Salt Lake City. Mom and dad were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on July 28, 2005. They are the parents of five children. Keeping a clean orderly home brought mom a great deal of joy. Sunday pot roast was her specialty and if anyone was ill, mom was the one they wanted near. She loved Elvis' movies, Elvis' songs and putting on high heels to go dancing with dad. Mom later returned to Work Force Services, where she retired, from a job she loved, in 1989 after 21 years. Many of her co-workers became life-long friends, sharing great times in their homes and as traveling companions. But the place mom loved the most was home. Her family worked together to help her remain in her home after the death of her husband in 2004 and her son in 2007. A good day was the family room, a roaring fire in the fireplace and a Utah Jazz game on the TV. Mom is survived by four daughters: Bonnie (Dave) Mason, Diane Williams, Suzanne (Michael) Slaughter and Kim Tuitupou, 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; one brother LaVere (Virginia) Downs, and two sisters, Sandra Ward and Irene (Clair) Hardman. Preceded in death by her husband Wallace, son Randy, sister Mary Lou Downs and her parents. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 7th at 12:00 noon at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, located at 3401 South Highland Drive. Honoring mom's request there will be no viewing. Friends and family may visit with her family 1- 1/2 hours prior to the service. Interment at Wasatch Lawn. Her daughters wish to thank Dr. Beth Hanlon and CNS Hospice for their attentive care and guidance during the last few weeks of Mom's life. A special thanks to son-in-law Dave Mason, grandchildren Stacie Reeves and Jeff Mason for going the extra mile in helping with her care. "We Love You Mom"
