SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Symphony/Utah Opera will present a season-long performance outreach festival celebrating the life and works of composer Ludwig van Beethoven.

As a foundation of the festival, which will run through May 2012, the Utah Symphony has already begun performing a season-long cycle of all nine Beethoven Symphonies as well as his "Emperor" Piano Concerto, and Utah Opera will present Beethoven's only opera, "Fidelio."

In collaboration with community partners, the festival will feature online lectures, a film series, artistic presentations and interactive events, as well as an invitation to all community groups interested in joining the collaboration through USUO's online "Beethoven Calendar."

The calendar will be on the USUO website in an effort to illustrate the impact of Beethoven's music. Any community organization interested in participating can submit details of events and performances that feature at least one work by Beethoven through May of 2012. Those interested should contact Paula Fowler (pfowler@usuo.org) for more information.
