STARKVILLE, Miss. — The Utah Valley University softball team and six individuals from the 2010-11 squad were honored for their academic success for the 2011 season by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Friday.

As a team UVU boasted the 20th-best Div. I team GPA in the nation with a combined GPA of 3.379. UVU's Korryn Coates, Jessica Martin, Sydney Miles, Lyndi Prestgard, Samantha Telarroja and Meghan Yocom were all also recognized as 2011 NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes.

The award is given to any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.5 grade point average or higher during the 2010-11 academic year.

The award is the second component of the association's academic award program.

Last week, the teams with the highest GPAs in each membership category were recognized as a 2011 NFCA Top 10 All-Academic team.
