PROVO — BYU senior linebacker Jordan Pendleton suffered a season-ending injury during the loss to TCU, which means his collegiate career is over.

Coach Bronco Mendenhall made the announcement Monday morning during his weekly news conference.

Mendenhall recalled recruiting Pendleton out of Bingham High School years ago and recounted Pendleton's injury-riddled career. "He's earned my respect," Mendenhall said.

Pendleton suffered a season-ending injury last year against Utah State, then worked hard to get back on the field. He injured his ankle against Texas this season, then played in the first half against Utah before missing the Central Florida and Utah State games. Mendenhall said Pendleton is "an NFL player."

Senior Jameson Frazier will take Pendleton's starting role at the outside linebacker spot.

Mendenhall also confirmed Monday that BYU has been approached by the Big East about possibly joining that conference, along with Boise State and Air Force. Mendenhall said the "main benefit" of joining the Big East would be "inclusion in the BCS system."
