Donna Spear, 66, of Ely, Nevada, passed away on February 16, 2011 at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, Utah, after a long courageous battle with cancer and with her family by her side. She was born February 17, 1944 in San Francisco, CA, to David Andrew and Mary Florane (Saffer) Hill. She graduated from North Sanpete High School in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. She attended and graduated from SUU in Cedar City, UT. She furthered her education by earning a Masters Degree in Education from UNR in Reno, NV, in May of 1994. She married Stephen Johnson from Fountain Green, UT, and they had five kids together but were later divorced. She later married Thad Spear and moved to Ely, Nevada, where she taught for many years with the White Pine High School. She was an active member of the Ely, NV, 2nd Ward in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many positions, many with the Primary and the Relief Society. She enjoyed cooking, getting wood for the winter, drawing, embroidery, but what she cherished most was genealogy. She worked on genealogy for family and friends. She indexed many names for the census records, vital records and the Freeman Letters for familysearchindexing.org. Donna is survived by her husband, Thad W. Spear and eight children: David (Teresa) Johnson, Dee (Royann) Johnson, Mary (George) Shedd, Katie (Kent) Allan, Clarice (Clayton) Coombs, Justin (Melissa) Spear, Jason Spear, Celeste (Jake) Hudson; three brothers, Mike (Glenadine) Hill, Drew (Barbara) Hill, Bruce (Kathy) Hill; one sister, Nancy (Dave) Hammerschmidt; 24 grandkids and 24 great-grandkids. Preceded in death by her father and mother. Funeral services will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., viewing 9:00 to 10:00 a.m, February 25, 2011 in Ely, Nevada, with interment directly following the services.
