A South Jordan band has been nominated for the eWorld Music Awards in Hollywood, and it's now looking for votes.
The Terks was nominated for the music awards by a panel of top recording artists, music producers and executives. It is one of five other bands selected to participate out of thousands.
According to the eWorld Music Awards website, the awards "will showcase up-and-coming, unsigned musical talent."
The winner will be determined by fan vote. The three bands with the highest number of votes will get to perform at the eWorld Music Awards in front of an audience including producers and executives from major labels. Each band will also be given studio time to record songs and albums.
Adam Reader, lead vocalist for The Terks, said the band has only been performing together in its current formation for five months. All are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Despite the recent birth of the band, it is already beginning to experience some success. The Terks have released one EP on iTunes entitled "We Will Rise Above It."
Jim DeRogatis, former critic of the Chicago Sun-Times and Rolling Stones editor, said he was "as enamored by their new album 'We Will Rise Above It' as I have been with a record in a while."
Reader said the band has done well on Internet radio and has played as well statistically as popular bands such as ColdPlay, Arcade Fire and The Killers.
The band's sound has been likened to a combination of Pearl Jam, R.E.M. and Tom Petty.
The Terks' next performance is Saturday, Feb. 5 at 8 p.m. at The Fearless Zone, an all-ages venue in Bluffdale, Utah. Feb. 5 is also the last day to vote.
Those interested in voting can visit www.terks.catchboomerang.com (on Firefox or Internet Explorer), and install and launch the Boomerang media station. Voting can be found under the "eWorld Media" button and a menu that says "Vote! 2011 eWorld Music Awards."
