FORT WORTH, Texas — The father of two teenagers slain in Tampa, Fla., says they lived their lives with purpose and knew they were loved.
Army Col. Parker Schenecker and others who spoke Tuesday at a memorial service in Texas didn't mention the teens' mother, who's accused of killing them more than a week ago.
Sixteen-year-old Calyx (KAY'-lix) was described as a gifted artist who excelled at track and cross country.
Thirteen-year-old Beau was described as a playful, energetic boy who was a caring friend.
Police have said Julie Powers Schenecker shot her children for being "mouthy." She is charged with first-degree murder but her arraignment has not yet been scheduled.
A private burial service was held at a cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas, the father's hometown, before the memorial service.
