GREEN RIVER, Emery — A new monument is standing tall just outside Green River in Emery County. It's getting a lot of attention, but no one really knows what exactly it commemorates.

It's made up of 53 massive cement blocks stacked several stories high — right along I-70.

The man who sculpted it is Andrew Rogers, an Australian who had never been to Green River. Rogers tells the Australian newspaper The Age that a retired math teacher living in Washington state commissioned the project on land he owned.

Green River officials identified him as Herbert Steiner.

"I would really like to see Mr. Steiner — who is the owner of the statue — put out a little booklet of information and why he chose to do it, and what it symbolizes for him," said Conae Black, Green River city recorder.

Rogers says it draws on mathematical and scientific theories. He also told the paper he plans to add 10 more works of art to his property.
