A grand-opening event was held in Herriman on Friday, March 18, 2011 for the new J.L. Sorenson Recreation Center in Herriman. The center will serve residents in Herriman, Bluffdale and Riverton. Jordan School District Interim-Superintendent David Stoddard, Herriman Mayor Josh Mills, Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon, Beverley Taylor Sorenson, James Lee Sorenson and others participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new building, which is set to receive a platinum LEED energy efficiency rating. The project was been funded by the voter-approved Zoo, Arts and Parks Program, The Sorenson Group, Herriman City and Jordan School District. The building features a competition-size indoor swimming pool, an indoor leisure pool with slide, lazy river, and water play equipment, a drop-in daycare area, six competition racquetball courts, an indoor running and walking track, a party/reception area for recreational and business functions, three full-size indoor basketball courts, a diverse set of exercise/fitness equipment, a dance and aerobics studio and a spinning class room
