Skyrocketing gas prices are causing the misery index to rise in America. In spite of enormous petroleum reserves, government policies have made them unavailable. Obama issued a moratorium against drilling in the Gulf of Mexico even after the oil spill had been cleaned up, and defied a district judge ruling that the ban was illegal.

After months of stalling, the ban was finally lifted, but for nine months not a single deep-water drilling permit has been issued. This is outrageous! Another disturbing thing — where are our congressmen while our economy is taking a hard hit by the inexcusable action of our president? It appears they are sitting on their hands doing nothing. Obviously a wholesale issuing of drilling permits won't bring an immediate drop in gas prices, but it will put us on the right track and bring hope for the future.
