Missing from the May 31 Deseret News editorial "A rushed Patriot Act" is the fact that in nearly 10 years since the Act was made law, there have been no serious instances of abuse of the kind the News is so concerned about. But of greater import is the undeniable truth that in that same period there have been no terrorist attacks on the United States or its possessions. A reasonable person would have to conclude that to some extent the Patriot Act is responsible for that safety record and should be a welcomed component of our national defense.
