BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Dozens of volunteers are going back out to look for a 20-year-old Indiana University student who was last seen heading for her apartment near the Bloomington campus five days ago.

Lauren Spierer's sister, Rebecca, thanked everyone who gathered Tuesday morning outside her sister's apartment building to search the neighborhood and the wooded countryside around the small southern Indiana city.

Police say Spierer was last seen about 4:30 a.m. Friday walking home alone after a night of partying with friends.

Rebecca Spierer and her parents have traveled from their home in Greenburgh, N.Y., to join the search.

Spierer's disappearance is reminiscent of the search for IU student Jill Behrman who went missing during a bike ride near Bloomington in 2000. Her remains were found in a remote field three years later.
