NORTH BERWICK, Maine — The operator of Amtrak's Downeaster train says a fiery collision at a crossing in southern Maine could've been much worse.
Patricia Quinn from the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority says the train was traveling at 70 mph when the tractor-trailer crossed into the train's path Monday morning in North Berwick.
The truck driver was killed. But there were no life-threatening injuries among the 112 passengers and three crew members on the train. Quinn says four passengers and two crew members were hurt. Three were taken to Goodall Hospital in Sanford, where all were treated and released.
