BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Peru beat a second-string Mexico 1-0 on Friday to strengthen its chances of reaching the Copa America quarterfinals, while Chile and Uruguay drew 1-1.

The results put Chile and Peru on four points each heading into the final group games, with Uruguay on two and Mexico zero.

Peru dominated the second-half against a young Mexico team but some sharp goalkeeping and narrow misses kept the game scoreless until Paolo Guerrero scored in the 83rd minute.
