On Saturday, August 20, Salt Lake City lost one of it's brightest citizens. Margaret Boud Coombs may have left this earth after 94 years, but she leaves behind a great legacy of lessons about how to live life. At the same time, she was feisty, independent, devoted, strong-willed, creative, smart, well read, loyal, positive, embracing, quick witted, elegant, tenacious and loving. She was born in Salt Lake City in 1916 to Joseph Boud and Irene Delaney Boud and attended East High School and the University of Utah, enjoying her time as a Pi Phi and graduating at age 20 with a degree in Education and Science. Her first job as a lab technician put her into a world dominated by men, and she relished the challenge. She met Alan Coombs in 1938, and they married in 1939. As a couple, they owned the Beau Brummel Restaurant which served the finest food in the Salt Lake Valley for over 30 years. In their spare time, they raised four incredible children and were involved in helping the new ski industry get a foothold in Utah. Margie drove horse trailers so their children could compete in local rodeos. She and Al also golfed at the Salt Lake Country Club and traveled extensively. Margie was involved with the Junior League, the PEO, the Garden Club of Cottonwood and Westminster College. Tragically, Alan Coombs passed away in 1976 soon after retiring. But, that didn't stop Margie from constantly trying new things, reading avidly, traveling, working in her garden and being a very positive presence in the lives of her grandchildren and great grand-children. She is survived by her four children, Jane, Judy, John, and Peter, her four honorary children Timmy, Silke, Joe, and Jan, seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Known as Grandma Goose, Uncle Margie, Ooma and Grand, she enjoyed every minute with her family. A 'Celebration of Life' event will be held September 3rd from 4p.m.- 7p.m. at the Cottonwood Club in Holladay. Friend and family are invited to attend. If you are so inclined, you may donate to a cause close to your heart in the name of Margie Coombs. To all of us, she was 'simply marvelous!' Online condolences at larkinmortuary.com.
