Theda June Sorenson Imlay1919 ~ 2011Theda June Sorenson Imlay, our beloved mother-in-law, grandmother and aunt passed away peacefully on September 16, 2011 in Riverton, Utah. A daughter of Alfred and Harriet Emma Littlewood Sorenson. She was born in her grandmother's home and spent her entire life (until the past 5 years) in a very small circle in the South Salt Lake Area. She was a proud graduate of South High School. Upon her marriage to John H. Imlay on July 1, 1955, they moved into their brand new (and paid for) home on Austin Ave. and resided happily among their great friends and neighbors. Theda and John were known and loved for their service to family and friends for their help with projects, yard care, her great lasagna and chocolate cakes and gifts of her fine needlework. Theda had especially good office skills and worked many years for Salt Lake County. However, she is best remembered for her amazing brilliant mind. She was always interested in geography, politics and world history. She was very well-read. When her eyesight failed, she enjoyed the books on tape for the blind and was always deeply involved in history or biography. When no longer able to operate the tape machine, she loved being read to.Theda gave birth to her precious, only child, Ann in 1957. Ann was the joy of her life and she proudly followed her adventures through her education to a PhD and to the rank of Lt. Comdr. in the US Navy. Ann was married to Michael Spangler and gave birth to Theda's first and only grandchild in 2004. Ann passed away shortly after the birth of Johnathan.Theda is survived by her former son-in-law Michael and his wife Aida and their children, Johnathan and Aida Michelle of San Diego and numerous Sorenson and Imlay nephews and nieces. Theda looked forward to a nightly call from a special nephew, Jack Billings. She was given loving care the last years of her life by nephew Mark Bowers and his wife, Laural and by niece, Janet and husband Gary Hatfield and particularly by Michael Spangler. Special thanks to the kindness and care by the staff of Our House in Riverton and Access Hospice. At Theda's request, a private family gathering will be held. "Please, no flowers! Just sit down and enjoy a big bowl of chocolate ice cream while you remember me!" Yes, Theda was one-of-a-kind, one to never be forgotten, and one to learn from, to emulate and to admire. Arrangements under direction of McDougal Funeral Home.
