Eugene (Gene) Stromness BernsonDec. 27, 1924 ~ Oct. 15, 2012Eugene (Gene) Stromness Bernson, born December 27, 1924, passed away peacefully in Salt Lake City on Monday, October 15, 2012 at age 87. He had a long life and was surrounded by family during the last few weeks of his life.Gene was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Carl and Eva Bernson. He graduated from East High School and the University of Utah with a degree in architecture. As well as practicing architecture in Salt Lake, he taught skiing professionally at Solitude, Gorgoza and Park West (now Canyons). He also enjoyed water skiing and was an avid model railroader. After he retired, he became passionate about music composition and left us with beautiful pieces of music for piano and strings.Eugene married Jane Evelyn Morton in 1948. They had four children. Following her death in 1960, he married Peggy Miller in 1963. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane and his second wife, Peggy, his parents, his brother Donald Bernson, and his daughter Rebecca Jane Bernson. He is survived by his daughter Cindy (Tom) Slagle, of Sacramento, son David Bernson, daughter Lisa (Jake) Shadrick, of Salt Lake, granddaughters Amy Slagle (Tim) Kelly and Molly Shadrick of Salt Lake, and Courtney Slagle (Nick) Hobson of Los Angeles and great-grandchildren, Tommy and Hannah Kelly and Cameron Hobson. He is also survived by his sister, Natalie Calderwood, several nieces and nephews.A celebration of Gene's life and music will be held in December. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the M.S. Society, The Deseret Foundation or the charity of your choice.
