ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — Davis Love III found the perfect tonic for any Ryder Cup hangover — playing golf, and playing well on a Sea Island course he knows better than anyone.
Using a long putter that doesn't quite reach his belly, Love got himself into the final group at the McGladrey Classic on Friday with a 4-under 66 to trail Arjun Atwal by one shot. Atwal, who only has two tournaments left in a last-ditch effort to keep his card, had a 63 to take the lead going into the weekend.
Atwal was at 10-under 130, with plenty of familiar names right behind him. Jim Furyk, in his final official event of the year, had a 65 and was tied with Love.

David Toms and Bud Cauley were another shot back. Toms had a 67, and Cauley shot 70.
