J. Bruce Harless1933 ~ 2012J.Bruce Harless, our husband, father, grandfather, friend and confidante died April 17, 2012. He leaves behind his beloved wife Marlane Seely who he married October 6, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple.Bruce was born in Phoenix, Arizona, June 6, 1933 to wonderful parents. He excelled academically, and was active in sports. He loved scouting, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, and through the years has on many levels.At a very early age, he determined he wanted to be a medical doctor and he never wavered. He received his medical degree from Stanford University in 1956.He established a medical practice in Mesa, Arizona in 1967. The practice was going well when he was drafted into the army and stationed in Germany. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for "Meritorious Service in Europe. In 1969 he was honorably discharged with the rank of Major.Returning to the states, the family settled in Mount Pleasant in 1970, once again establishing a private practice. Following a serious illness in the early 1980s he closed the practice and accepted the position of Clinical Director for Central Utah Mental Health. Upon retirement in July 1998 the new BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE FACILITY in Ephraim was named in his honor.He felt his major strength as a physician was communicating his personal concern.He served a 2 1/2 year mission to East Germany, served twice as Bishop and as Stake President. He and Marlane served many years in the Manti Temple, culminating in the calling as President and Matron from 2006 - 2009.Bruce enjoyed a beautiful sunrise or sunset, a view from a high mountain peak, watching the seedlings emerge from his garden, family history and anything that has wings and flies.He had a firm and abiding testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and a deep love for our country.He readily acknowledges his greatest accomplishment was in marrying his wonderful wife Marlane. His real treasure consists of their four daughters with sons-in-law and nine grandchildren.Bruce is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by his wife Marlane, four daughters, Susan (Ralph Brothersen), Shari (Randal Thatcher), Ann (Lance Bushnell) and Allison (Joe Larson), nine grandchildren and two sisters, Yvonne (Darrel Cheney) and Julie (Richard Eggleston).Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 21st at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Utah North Stake Center, 461 North 300 West. Viewings on Friday, April 20th, 6:00 - 8:00pm at Rasmussen Mortuary, 96 North 100 West, Mt.
