SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The wife of a civil rights activist is still looking for answers nearly 40 years after her husband disappeared following a trip to Wounded Knee.
Cheryl Buswell-Robinson's husband, Ray Robinson, traveled to the 1973 takeover of the Pine Ridge reservation village. The black activist went to stand alongside Native Americans in their fight against social injustice.
But he never returned, and his body was never found. He was likely killed during a 71-day standoff between American Indian Movement members and government agents.
Buswell-Robinson is in Sioux Falls for a weekend conference commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Wounded Knee uprising.
She's not looking for arrests or prosecutions. She just wants to know where her husband's body is located so she can bring his remains home for a proper burial.
