While President Obama says the private sector is "doing fine," he left the blame for the public-sector's struggles to the Republicans, according to Fox News.
In response to Obama's statement, GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney declared that Obama was "out of touch."
During the White House press conference, Obama said, "Where we're seeing weaknesses in our economy have to do with state and local government. ... If Republicans want to be helpful, if they really want to move forward and put people back to work, what they should be thinking about is how do help state an local government," according to Fox News.
Obama suggested that the policies that Republicans were pushing would only further weaken the economy, stress the housing market and create even more job layoffs.
However, Romney sees it differently.
According to USA Today, Romney took a few minutes during a campaign rally to respond, "He said the private sector is doing fine. Is he really that out of touch? I think he's really defining what it means to be out of touch with reality."
Along with being "out of touch," Romney said the creation of more government jobs by Obama shows he didn't "get the message of Wisconsin," according to USA Today.
Romney says Obama's optimism in the economic outlook of the private sector is without merit, according to ABC News. "Has there ever been an American president who is so far from reality as to believe in an America where 23 million Americans are out of work or have stopped for work, or can only find part time jobs, where the economy grew in the first quarter of the year at only 1.9 percent?"
