TULSA, Okla. — A friend of a man charged in the killings of three black people in Tulsa says she sold him the pistol that police allege links him to the shooting spree.

Cindy Wilde was the first witness called Wednesday in the preliminary hearing for 19-year-old Jake England and 33-year-old Alvin Watts. Both are charged with killing three people and wounding two others in a predominantly black neighborhood.

Prosecutors say the shootings were racially motivated.

Wilde testified that she sold England a gun shortly before the shootings. She says she went to police after England told her that he shot several people.

Defense attorneys hadn't cross-examined Wilde by mid-morning Wednesday.

The preliminary hearing will allow a judge to decide if prosecutors have enough evidence to proceed to trial.
