PROVO — BYU basketball coach Dave Rose announced Monday that sophomore guard Damarcus Harrison is transferring to Clemson for the 2012-13 season.
"We appreciate the hard work and dedication Damarcus gave to our program this past season," Rose said. "Damarcus is a great young man from a wonderful family. We wish them the very best with this new opportunity."
Harrison, a native of Greenwood, S.C., struggled during in his freshman campaign. He played in 30 games, averaging 3.2 points, 1.0 rebounds and 8.8 minutes. However, in BYU's 25-point comeback victory against Iona in the NCAA Tournament, he came up big, pouring in a career-high 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor.
The day after that memorable win, Harrison told reporters that he was planning to serve a mission. "Going through this season, going through the highs and lows, helped me realized that I should probably go on a mission," he told the Deseret News.
It was not immediately known if Harrison still has mission plans.
The Cougars have added several guards to their roster since the end of the season — sophomore Tyler Haws, a returned missionary who started for BYU in 2009-10; junior college transfer Raul Delgado; and freshmen Cory Calvert, Cooper Ainge, and Kyle Rose.
