GENEVA — The IAAF says it withdrew Turkish long jumper Karin Mey Melis from the London Olympic final after being told of an earlier positive test for doping.

IAAF spokesman Yannis Nikolaou tells The Associated Press the world body received confirmation after Mey Melis advanced from the qualifying round that she failed a test at the European Championships.

The IAAF, which did not identify the substance involved, has asked the Turkish federation to hold a disciplinary case.

Turkish media reported that the 29-year-old Mey Melis tested positive for testosterone at the Europeans in late June in Helsinki. She placed fifth.

The South Africa-born athlete claimed she was injured after missing the Aug. 8 Olympic final.
