SALT LAKE CITY — The Deborah Butterfield statue "Rex," which weighs 1,637 pounds, was transferred outdoors at the the Utah Museum of Fine Arts in Salt Lake City on Thursday.

"Rex," like many of Butterfield horse sculptures, appears to be made from driftwood, but is actually cast bronze. To protect the piece against environmental conditions, Rex will be treated with a wax coating to preserve its finish, and the area around the sculpture will be landscaped to prevent damage. "Rex," made to be exhibited indoors or outdoors, will remain in the location indefinitely.
