Daniel Christian Maryon1959 ~ 2013Our loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, Daniel Christian Maryon, 54, of Draper, passed away peacefully in his home on November 17th, 2013, surrounded by love. He lived a courageous life, which saw him through the relentless progression of metastatic prostate cancer. Dan was born on September 14th, 1959, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of loving parents Edward Maryon and Patricia Hadley. He was the 4th of 8 children. Dan attended Davis High School and the University of Utah and graduated in French Literature in 1983. He married Dorothy Black, whom he cherished throughout their 28 years of marriage, in the Salt Lake Temple on September 12, 1985. Dan was a thoughtful and caring man who found meaning in music, language, colors, textures, and art. He saw the world as an artist and poet. He was a gifted writer and always had music in his head. His greatest work and joy came through his children as he gently taught them to see the beauty in themselves and encouraged them to hear and follow their own unique songs. Throughout his cancer journey he remained a steadfast pillar of strength and courage to all those around him. He quietly taught us about love and acceptance. Dan is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his daughters Kate (Tim) Herrick, Rachel (Jase) Henderson, son Ethan Maryon, and granddaughter Georgiana Herrick; his mother and stepfather Pat and Ken Hadley; and his seven brothers and sisters: Annie (John) Brewer, Ed (Jan) Maryon, Beth (Mark) Whittaker, Don Maryon, Kris (Ian) Harvey, Robin (Andrew) Johnson, and Jane (Nephi) Harvey. He is preceded in death by his father, Edward. There will be a celebration of his life at the Eagle Crest First Ward Chapel, located at 14919 South Eagle Crest Drive in Draper, on Saturday November 23 at 11:00 am. A viewing will be held on Friday November 22 from 6:00-8:00 pm and on Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 am. Daniel will be laid to rest in the Mountain View Memorial cemetery in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. The family would like to express our gratitude for the outpouring of love and support we have received. The acts of love and kindness are too many to count. We would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Nicholas Volgelzang of the Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada, who often held us up and had the ability to shed light into dim and often fearful corners; and Dr. Scott Samuelson, Utah Cancer Specialist, and his staff for their compassion and care.
