Rose Marie Brokaw Hinton1928 ~ 2013Our loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Rose Marie Brokaw Hinton, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on her 63rd wedding anniversary, November 22, 2013, at the age of 85. She was born on August 24, 1928, in Provo, Utah, the third of four children born to Austin Emil and Sarah LaPrele Brokaw.She grew up in various places including Provo, Lehi, and Myton, Utah. She was vice-president and valedictorian of Roosevelt High Class of 46.She graduated from BYU in 1950 with a degree in English and French and was one of 5 valedictorians. During her college years, she was called to serve as a stake missionary. While at BYU, she met her eternal sweetheart, Harvard R. Hinton, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 22, 1950, by Harold B Lee. Together they have eight children, 43 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren. Rose loved to sing, play the violin, draw, embroider, write poetry and give dramatic readings and book reviews around the state of Utah, but her greatest passion was family history. She was head of the Lehi Stake genealogical program and leader of the extraction program--one of the first in the Church. She spent countless hours over many years extracting thousands of names, particularly from Latin American royalty, for temple work. She also kept a detailed life history that filled 85 large volumes, which was donated to the BYU archives. She served faithfully in many callings in the Church throughout her life.She served three missions alongside her husband: The first to Mauritius where they opened a family history center, the second to South Africa where they were in charge of a microfilm ordering center and family history for the mission; and third as family history advisors to the area presidency of Western Europe, consisting of nine countries.Rose was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gaylen Hinton; a grandson, David Hinton; and her siblings, Afton Johnson and Blaine Brokaw. She is survived by her husband, Harvard R. Hinton; her children: H. Scott Hinton (Sharon) of North Logan, Utah; Dwayne Hinton (Laura) of Orem, Utah; Anne Pratt (Elbert) of Alpine, Utah; Glenn Hinton (Vicki) of Portland, Oregon; Carlton Hinton (Becky) of Lehi, Utah; Dwight Hinton (Trish) of Chandler, Arizona; Esther Conder (Cory) of Great Falls, Montana; and daughters-in-law Kristi Hinton (Gaylen) of Durham, North Carolina and Laurie Hinton of Orem, Utah; as well as her brother, Don Brokaw (Doralda) of Myton, Utah, forty-two grandchildren and thirty-five great-grandchildren.The funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 26, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lehi Stake Center, 200 N. Center St., with viewing one hour prior to service. There will also be a viewing at the Wing Mortuary, 118 E. Main St., Lehi, on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
