Richard Harold Hansen1921 ~ 2013What sort of man defines the Greatest Generation? The kind of man that could survive being abandoned by his father at age one, yet forgive him, seek him out, and make him part of his family. The kind of man who suffered Perthes disease and lived in pain until he had a hip replacement at 70. The kind of man who enlisted at 17, survived the Bataan Death March, the Death Ships, and three and a half years of captivity, yet didn't hold a grudge against the Japanese. The kind of man who always provided for his family by being optimistic when one career didn't work, he found another. The kind of man who wanted what was right for his country. The kind of man who never gave up hoping humans would learn the futility of war. Richard Harold Hansen, age 92, joined his wife, Lois December 2nd, 2013. He was born September 6, 1921 to Alice Burklund and Harold Hansen in Denver. He is survived by his daughter Sandra (Edward), and grandchildren Brandon and Heath (Katie) and sisters-in-law, Evelyn, Hazel, Gladys, and Marilyn. We know the VA greatly assisted in his long life, and we thank them.
