John (Jack) Hughes Thompson1937 ~ 2013John (Jack) Hughes Thompson, 75, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2013 in St George, Utah.He was born on June 26, 1937, in Ogden Utah, to Glen Robert Thompson and Alta Marie Taylor. He attended Weber High School, upon graduation he enlisted in the US Navy where he served on the USS Boxer throughout his 4 year term of duty, traveling to many corners of the world. He married Mary Eleanor Jeppesen, on May 31, 1957, in the Salt Lake Temple. He later returned to college while raising his young family and graduated with 2 degrees from LDS Business College. The majority of his career was spent in the quality control and engineering fields traveling extensively during his career, and had the pleasure of experiencing many different places, foods and customs. He retired in 2001 and moved to Washington, UT to enjoy the sunshine and warmth. He was an active, faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in many leadership positions and a mission to Cove Fort, Utah with his wife, Mary.John enjoyed life and had a wide array of interest including vintage cars, fishing, camping, traveling, boating, golfing, water/snow skiing, target shooting and playing his guitar. He was an active member of S.A.S.S./Dixie Desperados where he garnered many performance awards, including a gold medal at the Huntsman Senior Games. Above all he valued and loved his family and found the greatest pleasure spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.He is survived by his loving wife, Mary, 4 daughters, Karen Cartie, Ann (Dana) Hovorka, Judie (Mark)McDonald and Jackie (Tim) Sadler, 11 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren, 2 brothers, G.Robert Thompson and Stephen T. Thompson, 2 sisters, Marian Uhler and Shelby Hall. Preceded in death by parents and son-in-law, Loyd Cartie.A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, Feb. 14, 3:00 p.m. at the Ridgepoint Clubhouse, 1360 E. Telegraph Rd, Washington, UT. Graveside services will be held Saturday, Feb 16, 11:00 a.m. at Valley View Memorial Park.
