SALT LAKE CITY — Employment in Utah is looking up, according to the Utah Department of Workforce Services.

Unemployment dipped to 4.9 percent in March 2013, which is a 4 percent increase from last year. The improvement came from 48,700 jobs that were added since last year.

In February, Utah unemployment was 5.2 percent.

Utah’s unemployment rate is well below the national average. For jobs that require highly specialized training, the unemployment rate is very low — sometimes 2 to 4 percent.

Job areas like compensation benefits and job analysis specialist, which only has a 1.4 percent unemployment rate, are some of the lowest in unemployment. Computer network architects had 1.7 percent unemployment; software developers, applications and systems software had a 2.2 percent; and HR managers had a 2.3 percent unemployment rate.
