Gwendolynn Harriette Johns Webb1925 ~ 2013Gwenn Webb passed away June 14, 2013 in Sandy, Utah, at the age of 88. The middle child of Clyde Raymond and Mary Alice Armstrong Johns, Gwenn was born on April 21, 1925, in Akron, OH. The family moved frequently, following work as it could be found during the Great Depression. She was raised and educated in northern California towns until they came to Hayward, CA, where she graduated from Hayward High School in 1942, two years ahead of her peers. Mom attended banking school in San Francisco, and worked at the Bank of Hayward, Gillig Brothers Bus Company, and the Hudson Furniture Store before becoming a fulltime mother. She made time to help Dad at Wallace Webb and Son Construction Company whenever and however she was needed, but her most important career was her family.Gwenn married her high school sweetheart, William Francis Webb, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on October 31, 1945. They were blessed with 7 children. In 1957, the family moved to the outskirts of tiny, rural Pleasanton, CA. Although Dad claimed to have taught Mom to boil water "after" they were married, she was a quick study and soon became famous for her award-winning Lovelight Chiffon Chocolate Cake and pies with the thinnest, flawless crusts imaginable. Mom thoroughly enjoyed reading, flower arranging, book clubs and study groups, tennis, PTA work, church auxiliary work, and music ranging from silly songs to show tunes and light opera to Singing Mothers. She was known to co-conduct the music with Mantovani while cruising the freeway at warp speed. She was extremely proud of the accomplishments and strong character of her children and grandchildren, and now her increasing number of great grandchildren. She loved to participate in their milestone events, which kept her traveling across the country until only very recently.Mom and Dad shared many years of travel with family and friends, circling the globe numerous times. Dad heaped the treasures of the world upon her, but she was never vain or ostentatious. She enjoyed her blessings in this life, but she did not love "things". She loved her family and friends.Gwenn is survived by 6 of her children: Cathy (Kerry Juchau) of Glendale, AZ; Patricia (Dan Hodge) of Layton, UT; David (Kay Allen) of Paradise, CA; Jim of Erie, PA; Alisa (Tim Fullmer) of Sandy, UT; and Jon (Jana Urie) of Johnson City, TN; 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; her brother Wayne C. (Dianne) Johns of Roseville, CA, her sister-in-law Afton Johns of Hayward, CA, and her sister-in-law Donna Green, of Orem, UT. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her infant firstborn son, Michael, her brother, Eugene C. Johns, and her brother-in-law, H. Emerson Green. The family would like to express their gratitude for the many kindnesses, loving care and extended support offered by so many church and community friends, which allowed Gwenn to stay in her home as long as she did. We also express sincere appreciation for the caregivers and residents of Sunrise of Sandy, who provided Mom a comfortable and caring home for over two years. Mom was beloved for her giving, kind nature. She saw the goodness and soft side in all. She was a living example of forgiveness, loving kindness, humility, faith, hope and charity. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah, on Tuesday, June 18, preceded by a viewing from 12:30-1:45 p.m. Graveside services and interment will take place at Lone Tree Cemetery in Hayward, CA, on Friday, June 21, 2013.
