TREMONTON, Box Elder County — Fire crews reported full containment of a wildfire Monday after erratic winds fanned the flames from only about 20 acres to more than 1,100 acres in a matter of hours.
The 32 Fire was possibly sparked by lightning about 2 p.m. and was burning northwest of Tremonton, according to Jason Curry, spokesman for the state Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands.
"It's a grass fire, moved really, really fast with the winds driving it," Curry said. "It grew really fast and was contained pretty quickly as well."
The fire was initially threatening some sheds and barns, but a change in the wind about 5:30 p.m. began pushing the flames away from structures and I-84, Curry said.
Fire crews now will monitor the fire to keep it under control, he said.
"One little ember is all it takes to blow across the lines that we've established," Curry said. "That's why we'll be monitoring and watching."
