In recognition of this year's National Teach Children to Save Day, hundreds of Zions Bank employees visited elementary schools in their communities to teach classrooms of students how to save their money. Over the span of a week, employees reached out to over 15,000 students by teaching them the importance of saving for the future, especially college.
Harris Simmons, Zions Bancorporation Chairman, President and CEO, visited and taught a Guadalupe Elementary School 4th grade class. He taught, "Start early and be consistent." He explained other basic principles with them in an interactive style using activities and charts to help them differentiate between wants and needs, for example. Mr. Simmons shared afterwards, "My belief is [financial education] actually has to largely take place in homes. I think there has never been a more important time to get parents talking to their kids about long-term savings goals."
Zions Bank employees look forward to serving the community in ways like this to give back to the community that keeps them in business.
