LA VERKIN, Washington County — A staff member at a nonprofit school for "struggling teens" has been arrested and charged for allegedly showing students pictures and recordings of his sexual activity.
Donald Brown Jr., 45, was charged Wednesday in St. George's 5th District Court with 10 counts of dealing in harmful materials to minors, all third-degree felonies.
Brown was a staff member of the Youth Foundation when law enforcement officers were contacted on Tuesday to investigate allegations that he had been showing "numerous boys" pornographic images, according to charging documents.
Investigators talked to six boys at the school — all between the ages of 13 and 15 — who said they had seen between 15 to 50 of Brown's videos and pictures, according to court records. The videos were of Brown having sex with his wife and another woman, according to charging documents.
Police interviewed Brown's wife, who is also a staff member at the school. She told them she was aware that a camera was set up in their bedroom and Brown would sometimes record their sexual activity, charges state. The camera was linked to Brown's phone where the videos were downloaded.
When detectives interviewed Brown, he said he "did sit and talk to the boys in great detail about his sex life" and that's probably how they knew what he was doing. He then said the juveniles may have seen pornography on his phone by accident.
Brown was arrested and booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility in Hurricane on $50,000 bond. He was also fired from the facility.
Brown made an initial appearance in court Wednesday. His next hearing is scheduled for Monday.
