Washington Nationals outfielder says he won't be "Tebowing" any time soon. He is a devout Mormon, but takes a more subtle approach to mixing religion and his professional baseball career.
"If somebody asks me about it, I’ll tell them about it, but I’m not going to be Mr. Tim Tebow,” Harper told the Washington Times, clarifying after that he didn't mean any disrespect to Tebow.
Harper strives to act as "the best walking Book of Mormon" possible, but doesn't preach the Mormon gospel in traditional ways. He says being a good person and example are the best ways he can spread his beliefs.
"I’m going to try to be the best person I can off the field (and promote my faith that way)," he said according to the Washington Times article.
"Shoot, I’ll tweet about God and get 1,500 retweets and it’s like, that just went to 1,500 people or more."
In addition, following his signature Harper writes Luke 1:37 on every autograph he signs. It reads, "For with God, nothing shall be impossible."
