LAYTON — Police confirmed that a 22-year-old Layton woman is dead after being hit by a car Tuesday morning.
Police identified the woman as Jessica Jones.
Jones was crossing at the intersection of Antelope Drive and Main Street in the dark around 6:30 a.m. She was walking against the traffic light when an eastbound Ford F-150 hit her, according to Layton Police Lt. Shawn Horton.
Investigators also believe Jones might have been hit by a second eastbound vehicle after the impact with the truck.
Police do not suspect that the 38-year-old man driving the truck was impaired, Horton said. The man told police "he did not have enough time to stop before hitting (Jones)," Horton said in a statement.
Jones was transported to Davis Hospital and Medical Center, Horton said. Just before 9 a.m., police confirmed she was dead.
"This appeared to be a tragic accident, and our sympathies go out to the victim's family," Horton's statement said.
Eastbound lanes at the intersection of Antelope Drive and Main Street were closed Tuesday morning, causing traffic delays in the area.
