Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney wrote a public letter to his wife, Ann Romney, in light of the inauguration of the Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases.
The center will reasearch multiple sclerosis — an illness Ann Romney was diagnosed with in 1998 — as well as Alzheimer’s disease, Lou Gehrig's disease (also known as ALS), Parkinson’s disease and brain tumors.
Both Mitt and Ann Romney have begun raising money for the center, giving some of their own money, as well. The couple hopes to raise $50 million for the center that is set to open in 2016 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
Tuesday morning, Mitt Romney posted an old family photo online of himself along with a public letter detailing his wife's illness and what she has overcome.
"You’ve come a long way. It’s been over 15 years since we sat in the first neurologist’s waiting room," the letter begins. "From one of the wounded, you have become one of the warriors. I could not be more proud of the 15-year-old girl I fell in love with almost 50 years ago."
