CEDAR CITY — Ammon Olsen threw for four TDs and ran for another Saturday and Southern Utah pulled away from North Dakota 35-17.
Olsen was 21 of 23 for 299 yards and gave Southern Utah (2-7, 2-3 Big Sky) a 21-3 at halftime lead with a 4-yard TD pass to Naia Ursua, a 2-yarder to Mitch Jessop and a 4-yard scoring run.
North Dakota (3-5, 1-3) mounted a comeback, with Jer Garman scoring on a 12-yard run in the third quarter and on a 1-yard run in the fourth to pull within 21-17. Garman gained 112 yards on 26 carries.
But Olsen replied with a 37-yard TD pass to Mike Sharp, then hit Raysean Pringle on an 87-yarder midway through the fourth quarter.
Ryan Bartels was 23 of 44 for 297 yards and two interceptions for North Dakota, one of which the Thunderbirds converted into a TD.
