CLEARFIELD — A Clearfield pediatrician has been arrested in a child pornography investigation.

Dr. Taylor Steven Jerman, 34, was arrested by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force for investigation of eight counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. He was arrested at 2 a.m. after investigators served a search warrant at the Pinnacle Apartments, 1100 S. 2000 East, in Clearfield.

The arrest marked the culmination of a two-month investigation.

"According to ICAC, hundreds of images containing child pornography have been located on Mr. Jerman’s personal computer," Clearfield police said in a prepared statement.

Jerman works as a pediatrician for Intermountain Healthcare in Layton. Police said none of his alleged criminal activity is linked to his patients or any of his involvement at Intermountain.

Intermountain Healthcare released a brief statement Friday regarding Jerman's arrest.

"We are deeply concerned by these allegations. Taylor Jerman, MD, has been an employee based at the Layton Clinic since February 2014. He has been suspended pending the outcome of an investigation."

Because of his access to children, both in his profession and the fact his apartment is close to a playground, law enforcers requested a higher than normal bail for Jerman, according to a Davis County Jail report. He was being held Friday on $200,000 bail.

According to the report, investigators began looking into alleged child pornography file sharing by Jerman on Aug. 27.

The Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing released a statement Friday afternoon saying it was "aware of the criminal charges" against Taylor and would be "investigating the case and is currently reviewing its options with regards to Dr. Jerman's licenses."

Jerman obtained a bachelor's degree in psychology at Weber State University, then attended Saint Louis University School of Medicine and trained as a pediatric resident at the University of Iowa, according to Intermountain's website. He specializes in treating patients struggling with headaches, sleep disorders, neurological conditions, and gastrointestinal disorders. Jerman grew up in Highland.
