SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business was selected as one of 11 schools or colleges from nine universities to receive funding from an $11.25 million Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative.
The school will receive up to $1.25 million over five years.
The Daniels Fund board of directors evaluated the success of a five-year pilot program in eight universities, including the U., and opted to increase the number of participants.
The Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative was launched in 2010 with eight universities in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. The initiative was established to strengthen the teaching of principle-based ethics, fostering a high standard of ethics in students. It was started in honor of Bill Daniels, a businessman who owned the Utah Stars ABA basketball team.
Executive leaders from the participating colleges — all members of the Ethics Consortium — work collaboratively to share expertise and resources through the Ethics Consortium website. Each college’s grant provides for development and implementation of new curriculum, programs and activities that engage their students in real-world application of ethical principles.
Students, faculty and community leaders also participate in the annual Daniels Fund Ethics Consortium Case Competition and Daniels Fund Ethics Consortium Summit.
