The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Monday that the film “Meet the Mormons” will be shown in all visitors' center and historic site theaters beginning Jan. 1, 2015. The film will also be available in the Legacy Theater in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in Salt Lake City beginning Jan. 2, 2015. It will be shown free of charge to all visitors.
The film, which was produced with the intent of being shown exclusively in visitors' centers before test audiences gave overwhelmingly positive reviews, premiered in over 400 theaters nationwide in October, according to Mormon Newsroom. It debuted at No. 10 at the box office, and all net proceeds were donated to charity.
“Meet the Mormons” does not attempt to answer doctrinal questions about the religion but features members of the church from different backgrounds who discuss various aspects of their faith.
“The intent of the film is to help people understand what our members are really like,” Jeff Roberts, the film’s producer, told the Deseret News in August.
