Popularity and praise have surrounded “The Lego Movie” after its opening weekend, when it grossed $69.1 million. But there’s a political message behind it, too, according to The Atlantic, and a lot if it may have to with Will Ferrell.
Ferrell — known for such classics as “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” and “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Rocky Bobby” — tends to play characters that slowly warm up to progressive ideals, The Atlantic reported. And Ferrell, who has played George W. Bush on “Saturday Night Live” and the Broadway stage, has brought politics into films before, which may be why there are business and corporate America connections to “The Lego Movie.”
“The audience may leave the theater without politics fresh on its mind, instead remembering how much they laughed,” wrote Noah Gittell for The Atlantic. “But they still received a dose of ideology. In other words, it is just another classic Will Ferrell movie.”
