SOUTH SALT LAKE — Following the retirement of Police Chief Chris Snyder, Jack Carruth has been appointed as South Salt Lake's 18th chief of police.

Carruth has more than two decades of law enforcement experience, including 17 years in South Salt Lake, serving the last three years as deputy chief.

He graduated from the FBI National Academy in 2013 and has also served South Salt Lake as patrol officer, detective, K-9 handler, sergeant and captain.

Carruth implemented a buy-back program for South Salt Lake police motorcycles that reduced the repairs and maintenance costs of the motorcycles by 80 percent. He was awarded the Chief’s Star in 2003 and the Medal of Merit in 2000.

“I am honored to step into the role as South Salt Lake police chief,” Carruth said. “I am not the chief of police. I am your chief of police.”
