Danny James Bergin 10/5/73 ~ 3/26/14Danny Bergin has been released from his lifelong mission of embodying unconditional love. He never preached a sermon or spoke a word about how to love. He lived it. After a near-drowning accident at age 2, Danny couldn't walk, talk, or feed himself but taught wordless lessons of love, tenderness, humility, and gratitude. When he sensed he was inconveniencing someone, he often rubbed his chest with his fist American Sign Language for "I'm sorry." A few hours before he died, after his brothers David and Ben gave him a priesthood blessing, he brushed his chin with his right hand over and over again "Thank you, thank you, thank you." Danny was a tease. Caregivers all over Utah County remember him good-naturedly sticking his tongue out at them to get a laugh. Plenty of Cougar fans have endured him flapping his red Ute tie at them and giggling at their distress. Danny was born in Provo on October 5, 1973, along with his triplet brothers, Patrick and Michael. Michael died at age 29, and in recent weeks Danny began looking up more often and sending a kiss heavenward. Pneumonia conquered his body, but we know his spirit now is dancing.Danny's parents tenderly cared for him for decades. As they grew older, his brothers Ben and Patrick and his sister Sue stepped in. We're grateful to Danny's dozens of caregivers over the years, most recently Evalyn Bumpers, John Majors, Val Fenton and the wonderful counselors at Camp Kostopulos. We also thank Dr. Gary Garner for his tender watch over Danny during his last hours. Daniel is survived by his parents, Allen and Marian Bergin of St. George, Utah, and his brothers and sisters: David Bergin (Christi), Sue Bergin, Cyndy Bennett (Scott), Kathy Cook, Eric Bergin (Pam), Ben Bergin (Brooke) and Patrick Bergin. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 29, at 1 pm at the Manila 7th Ward chapel, 1320 W. 3540 N., Pleasant Grove. Visiting time from 11:30-12:45 at the same location.
