SALT LAKE CITY — Farmers, bakers, growers and other local artisans pitched their tents and settled in for another season of catering to real food enthusiasts and meandering shoppers as the Downtown Farmers Market began Saturday.
Thousands of shoppers convened on Pioneer Park to get their pick of products from more than 250 vendors. Some came for the experience and others for early season produce, which included mixed greens, beans and other veggies, berries, spices and mushrooms, and a variety of edible roots and tubers.
Peddlers also pleased the crowds with an array of cheeses, popcorn, fresh-squeezed beverages and baked goods, as well as treats for other senses, including flowers, plants and ecclectic decor.
The market, in its 23rd year, is held every Saturday at Pioneer Park, 350 S. 300 West, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Beginning in August, it will be open Tuesdays at 4 p.m.
