Brent will be a large part of our leadership this season,” Branham said. “His size, speed and ability to pursue and protect the puck make him a very valuable asset for us.
Utah Grizzlies head coach and General Manager Tim Branham announced Wednesday that the team has re-signed forward Brent Gwidt for the 2014-2015 season.
"Brent will be a large part of our leadership this season,” Branham said. “His size, speed and ability to pursue and protect the puck make him a very valuable asset for us."
Gwidt played in 56 games for the Grizzlies during the 2013-2014 regular season and in 56 of the team’s first 58 games before being elbowed in Stockton on March 14 and missing the final 13 games of the year. Gwidt had six goals and 13 assists for 19 points in 56 games and a plus-three in his first full professional season. He was fourth on the team with 145 shots on goal.
"I couldn't be happier to be back in Utah with the Grizzlies for this upcoming season,” said Gwidt, who is spending the offseason in Utah. “The organization and city are top notch, and with Tim Branham behind the bench, it gives us a chance to be successful. I am really looking forward to training camp starting.”
The Wisconsin native and former captain at the University of Nebraska-Omaha led the Grizzlies with four shorthanded points (one goal, three assists) and was also tied for the ECHL lead in shorthanded scoring by rookies. Gwidt tallied two assists in two playoff games for Utah this year. He joined the team following college for the final five games of the 2012-2013 season and for the playoffs.
The forward was originally selected in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Washington Capitals.
The Grizzlies open the 2014-2015 regular season at Maverik Center against the Idaho Steelheads on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.
Ticket packages for the 2014-2015 season are on sale now and start at $29. Call (801) 988-8000 or visit the Utah Grizzlies website for more information.
