SOUTH JORDAN — About 40 pit bulls and other dog breeds walked around South Jordan Park Sunday, marking the first time in recent memory that pit bulls have been allowed at the park.
"Before the law was changed, we wouldn't be able to do it because most of our dogs are pit bulls," Scott Schun, one of the event organizers, said.
The group SLC StrutABulls, is a dog-walking group that meets every other Sunday at various parks around the Salt Lake Valley. The group promotes responsible dog ownership and promotes pack walks.
The group welcomes all dog breeds but focuses mainly on pit bulls.
HB97 went effect on Jan. 1. The new law prohibits cities and towns from banning certain breeds of dogs, such as pit bulls.
